FUTURES COMMUNITY
CENTER

Community resources and social services, across the country for children, young people and families, continue to be limited in terms of scale, variety, and quality. We ‘were inspired to start Futures Community Center, once we took residence in Ruyenzi community in 2013, largely to respond to the same gaps in the all the neighbourhoods of Runda Sector and Kamonyi District, where our present day head office is situated. The initial activities of the center however started 5 years later. As such, the center started against a backdrop of first hand experiences of lack of community resources and services, like a kindergarten or a recreational center, among others, especially by young families with little children that needed such services. It is therefore true to say that, the decision to initiate a community Center was in keeping with the pertaining needs of the community.

Futures Community Center was born in 2018 initially providing home-school and summer camp services. The home school soon evolved into an early childhood education center and eventually expanded to provide both pre primary and primary school education. The Early Childhood Development Center and Primary school were established at a time, when only a handful of schools and child friendly recreational facilities were available, despite an increasing number of young families that had started to establish their lives in Ruyenzi and nearby neighbourhoods.

The founders have since embarked on a Vision of a transformational community where children, youth and families thrive and prosper, and a mission of creating opportunities, leveraging capabilities, connecting people and developing partnerships necessary for children, youth, and families to acquire assets and resources vital for their social development, and for sustainable community development. We aim to provide equitable and first-rate and inclusive services to our community and the nation.
